Casey Burkhardt

With paid internships at NASA and Google under his belt and an invitation from Google to return for a second stint there this summer, Casey Burkhardt definitely

is on the high road to success. An honors graduate of Toms River High School East, Casey is earning a 3.74 in his major related classes through his junior

year of a 5 year B.S/M.S. Computer Science program at Villanova University in Pennsylvania.

Casey has low vision from albinism and has been a client of the New Jersey Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired since first grade. “They’ve been

really great; they help with books and readers and technology”, notes Casey, who uses an array of assistive tools including ZoomText and magnifiers.

While at NASA, Casey worked on developing a computer simulation package for managing rocket propulsion test data and last summer, at Google, Casey worked

on making the platform for the Android mobile phone accessible to blind and visually impaired people. He plans to work again at Google this coming summer

with renowned blind mathematician and computer scientist T.V. Raman.

He contributes free time to serving as webmaster for the New Jersey Association of Blind Students where he also had been a board member.
