Subject: Good News - Washington Department of Services for the Blind
As you know, the Washington Department of Services for the Blind has been engaged in efforts to stave off consolidation into a larger social service department. According to Cindy Van Winkle, Chair, State Rehabilitation Council, advocates have been able to persuade the legislature that consolidation would jeopardize programs for blind people in Washington State. Specifically, Cindy reports:
"I have received word from Representative Pettigrew via an email sent to one of our partners last night concerning HB2953. These are his words quoted from that email:
"After listening to the stirring testimony today at the public hearing, my colleagues and I will propose NOT to transfer Dept. of Services for the Blind to DSHS."
