HIT Guidelines 03/2010
FYI. The Access Board submitted these comments today, March 4th. I have attached a PDF and pasted the comments below for your convenience. So far, these are the only comments that have been submitted about HIT accessibility in response to that rulemaking. The URL is www.regulations.gov. Please encourage others to submit comments of their own.
Quite simply,, if accessibility is not incorporated into HIT, it would be impossible for the over 54 million Americans with disabilities to readily access critical information related to electronic health records.
Specifically, this would mean that blind/low vision persons would require "sighted" assistance for access and, those with physical disabilities would require the assistance of a Personal Assistant (PA) for access to their electronic personal health records as well.
